Treat yourself to Mickey's Halloween Party

[caption width="1600" align="alignnone"] It's a Small World[/caption]  The night was chilled and gray, with smokey clouds above, and a minor, 10 percent chance of rain. It was the first in many evenings i'd contemplated layers for the kids-- would they be warm enough in their costumes? Our Southern California heat was finally pardoning its high temps, showing autumn a little overdue respect. And in a perfect confluence of atmospheric events, you could almost taste Halloween. In essence: It was a perfect night for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Disneyland. This special-ticket event is a treat for the senses. Candy (i assure you it's the good stuff!) awaits party-goers, as do significantly shorter lines for attractions, photo opps with Disney villains and characters, a Halloween-themed fireworks show starring Jack Skellington and friends, and evening parades. Main Street looks like a small town in middle America, dressed with jack-o-lanterns and amber-colored projections on store fronts. Ahead, Sleeping Beauty's castle is a shimmering, glow-in-the-dark fantasy, and further up, wedged between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, It's a Small World's ivory facade has been turned into a spectacular, entertaining display of singing spooks and dancing pumpkins, thanks to black lights and more clever lighting tricks.    [caption width="1600" align="alignnone"] Main Street[/caption]  Mickey's Halloween Party tickets tend to sell out quickly online, but the good news is, the fun lasts at least a month. When you enter, Cast Members fit you with a plastic bracelet, and treat bags are provided. At 7 p.m., the Park closes to all other guests, which thins out attendance considerably, and allows you to hop on your favorite rides almost immediately. Our longest wait was Space Mountain at 15 mins, while we practically walked on to the submarine, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, King Arthur's Carrousel, Mad Tea Party tea cups, Star Tours, and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. The only downside: Despite the narrow chance of rain, it did, in fact, rain, which cancelled the evening parade, delayed the fireworks, and shut down some of the outdoor attractions, including Autopia.
