KISS: keep it simply sweet
My sweet violet is not yet 4, and i'm in no hurry for her to grow up. That means i also want her to have clothes that reflect the sweetness and innocence that will one day be lost to graffiti'ed T-shirts, neon leggings, short-shorts, and blinged-out blouses screaming, "You're never too young to be older!" I'll lose her to stores pumping loud music and reeking of spray colognes for teens and 'tweens, and adorned with pictures of perfectly tanned and trim girls and boys at the beach, playfully discovering their sexual chemistry. That energy is relentless and rumbling, waiting to steamroll every last bobby sock and pastel jumper. So when i find something for my girl that's sweet, timeless and above all, age-appropriate, i'm a very happy mama. Right now i couldn't be any happier with the online brand Olive Juice. I found them on Instagram and have been crazy for their throwbacks to simple stitching, calm fabrics (think classic neutrals) and quality pieces. I think my favorite detail of all is the use of Peter Pan collars on shirts and dresses. Even on young ladies, Peter Pan collars have a feminine, school-girl charm that reminds me of Audrey Hepburn and Shirley Temple. If you like gingham, stripes and solids that beg to be adored just as they are-- without bling, loud sayings and cartoon characters running rampant-- i think you'll be truly happy with their line. If you do decide to order and, like me, you're on a budget (the average dress runs about $60, but is fully lined, with hand-sewn-like quality), wait for their sales, or check out Olive's Closet, their online outlet.
